Description
Most shape sorters are a box with holes. This one is a house, and that difference matters more than you'd think.
The roof carries the sorting holes — a circle, a square, a triangle, a rectangle — and the matching wooden blocks drop through in bright purple, green, orange and yellow. A child works out that only one shape fits each opening, posts them all inside, then opens the house to retrieve them and starts again. Along one side, a built-in bead abacus in red and green rows adds a second activity entirely: sliding, counting, sorting by colour.
What the house shape adds is story. A box is a box. A house has a door, a roof, an inside — so the blocks become people going home, or furniture being delivered, or something only your child knows. The sorting still happens, but it arrives inside play the child invented, which is precisely when learning holds.
It's beautifully made for the price. Smooth natural wood in soft, muted colours rather than harsh primaries, the sort of toy you're happy to leave out on a shelf rather than hiding in a basket before guests arrive.
At Aegle Toys we're drawn to toys that quietly do several jobs at once, and this one manages three — shape recognition, colour sorting and early counting — inside a single object a three-year-old genuinely wants to pick up.
