A little regular care helps keep wooden toys ready for play. Start with the instructions supplied with your particular toy: finishes, glued parts, printed details and accessories may need different treatment. This guide covers general care, not a verified cleaning or disinfection method for every Aegle Toys product.

Everyday cleaning: use minimal moisture

  1. Remove loose dust with a soft, dry cloth.
  2. If the toy's care instructions allow damp wiping, use a soft cloth wrung out well. For marks, use a little mild soap diluted in water, then remove the soap with a separate barely damp cloth. Try an inconspicuous spot first and stop if colour transfers or the surface changes.
  3. Wipe dry straight away. Keep water away from joints, holes and attached components.

Do not soak wooden toys, put them in a dishwasher, or use boiling water or steam unless the manufacturer expressly permits it. Avoid abrasive scrubbers and unapproved cleaning chemicals.

Dry fully before putting away

Leave pieces spread out in a well-ventilated place, away from direct heat and prolonged sunlight. Let every surface and joint dry completely before reassembling or storing. Do not seal damp toys in a bag or box.

Can you disinfect wooden toys?

Cleaning removes dirt; it is not the same as disinfecting. Do not assume that wood disinfects itself, or that a vinegar mixture, essential oils or a quick wipe will disinfect a toy.

If disinfection is needed, such as after illness or contact with bodily fluids, set the toy aside and ask the manufacturer for a method suitable for its material and finish. Use a disinfectant only if both the toy's instructions and the disinfectant's label permit that use, following the required contact time and any rinsing instructions. Do not mix cleaning products. If no compatible method is confirmed, keep the toy out of shared play until you have guidance.

Store in a dry place

Choose a clean, dry shelf or ventilated container, away from damp floors, bathroom humidity and direct heat. Check stored toys periodically. If you notice mould, a persistent musty smell, swelling or damage, stop using the toy and seek advice rather than simply wiping it and returning it to play.

Care between siblings, friends and play sessions

Keep a separate place for toys waiting to be cleaned. Set aside toys that have been mouthed or visibly soiled, and clean them according to their instructions before another child uses them. In a nursery or shared-care setting, follow the setting's hygiene policy as well as the manufacturer's guidance. Choose toys with a confirmed compatible hygiene method when frequent disinfection is required.

Keep sets together, without trapping moisture

For sets such as our Wooden 3-Piece Puzzles, spread the pieces and board out separately while drying. With the Wooden Bead Stacking Toy, check around posts and openings before storing. These are organisation tips, not confirmation that either product can be washed or disinfected. Follow each toy's age guidance and keep small pieces away from younger children.

The simple routine: check the instructions, clean gently, dry completely and store somewhere dry. If you are unsure about a toy's finish or a cleaning product, ask before using it.
